Två par och deras vänner, alla från den brittiska övre medelklassen, roar sig med påkostade inflyttningsfester, att jämföra de briljanta framstegen hos sina avkommor och – eftersom några av dem arbetar som advokater – att diskutera den senaste utvecklingen i pågående brottmål över ett glas vin (eller fyra). Klienternas liv och beteenden tycks dem totalt väsensskilda från deras egna.

Men är de verkligen det?

I ett särskilt kontroversiellt fall går vännernas åsikter åt helt olika håll, samtidigt som ljusskygga hemligheter inom kompisgänget börjar komma upp till ytan. Deras välordnade tillvaro skakas i grunden när alla versioner av sanningen blir ifrågasatta.

Nina Raine's play CONSENT premiered and had a sold out season in 2017 at The National Theatre in London, to great acclaim from audience and press. 

Two British upper-middle-class couples and their equally privileged friends are enjoying housewarming parties, comparing their offspring’s brilliant breakthroughs and – as some of them are high profile barristers – discussing the latest developments of their legal cases over a glass of wine (or four). Their clients lives and behaviour seem a world away from their own.

But are they really?

As the friends take opposing briefs in a controversial case of sexual abuse while murky secrets within the group start to surface, their own lives begin to unravel as every version of the truth is challenged.

Nina Raine’s play Consent was praised by audience and press after its world premiere and sold out opening season in 2017 at The National Theatre, London. It explores some of the most charged issues of our time: the sources of sexual betrayal and violence, the ambiguities of consent, and the shortcomings of the justice system in dealing with these cases.
