Erika Sheffers pjäs The Fundamentals  hade urpremiär 2016 på Steppenwolf Theatre i Chicago.  

I handlingens centrum står Millie som arbetar som städerska på ett av New Yorks finaste lyxhotell. Plötsligt öppnas en möjlighet för henne att söka en administrativ tjänst uppe i kontorskorridorerna och därmed klättra i hotellhierarkin. En värdefull möjlighet att säkra sin familjs framtid – men också ett moraliskt dilemma: Vad och vem är hon beredd att offra på vägen? Ska hon vara lojal med sina kollegor och riskera att gå miste om möjligheten eller ska hon avslöja fifflandet som pågår på hotellet för att säkra sin egen karriär?

When an opportunity to move into management gives her the chance to leave behind her blue collar life, Millie must decide how much, and who, she’s willing to sacrifice to secure her family’s future. Does she rat out her colleagues, who all seem to have a few little side enterprises involving company property, or does she keep her head down, thus staying down in all ways, and remain on the righteous side of the workers?
